Technical Issues

1. I found out that my voice could barely be heard no matter how many times I adjusted my microphone. How can I fix this?

A few things you might try:

1. Change the browser and try it again. Firefox is the recommended browser.
2. Restart your computer and try it again. 
3. If you have more than one audio input, try connecting your mic to the other input. 
4. Check and see if your microphone has a physical volume control nob. If it does, change the volume there.
5. If you have another computer near by, try that.
6. Make sure there are no other audio inputs connected to your computer. An example is a webcam, which often has an internal microphone.
7. Borrow a different mic from a friend. If no mic is found, then try a webcam. Often a webcam has an internal mic that you can use to record.
8. Make sure that your output volume is set to loud level. Could it be you are recording at an acceptable level, but not hearing it back because your speaker volume is low?
9. If all fails, finish answering all the questions that do not involve audio. BUT DO NOT SUBMIT THE TEST, just save it. Then, come to the on-campus language lab in Rayzor Hall to record the audio to complete the test. Once completed, you can submit the test.  

2. The audio portion of my Language Placement Exam is not working correctly. What can I try?

Make sure you are using the Firefox web browser. It will provide the best results with the audio portion of your placement exam.

3. I don't see the Placement Test under "Joinable Sites." 

Click on 'More Sites' in the top blue banner.
Search for 'Placement Test'. In this case, you don't need to Join the site. Just click on the placement test!

4. I joined the Placement Test in the past and now the current test is not displaying properly.

You should unjoin your old placement test. To unjoin the site:

1. Log onto OWL Space
2. Click on My Workspace
3. Click on Membership
4. Make sure you are on the “My Current Sites” tab
5. Search “placement”
6. Select the site you wish to unjoin and click “Unjoin"

You may then join the current placement test, according to the directions on the 'Test Instructions' page.
